# Overview

The Kerno IDE extension does two things.

**It gets you started.** Install the extension, sign in, and it starts the Kerno agent for you. It walks you through connecting your coding agent and gets Kerno running without leaving your editor.

**It shows you what is happening.** Once your agent is running, the extension reflects its activity in real time. Environment builds, baseline runs, and validation all show up in the panel as they happen. You can inspect environment status, endpoint coverage, and test results at any time.

### Supported IDEs

The extension works in VS Code and any VS Code fork: Cursor, Windsurf, and Antigravity. Install from the [VS Code Marketplace](https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=kerno.kerno) or [Open VSX](https://open-vsx.org/extension/Kerno/kerno).

### What's next

* [Quickstart](/docs/ide-extension/quickstart.md): install the extension and connect your agent in a few minutes

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://kerno.gitbook.io/docs/ide-extension/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
